PowerPoint Export

PowerPoint Export

Any presentation you build in Opal can now be exported as a PowerPoint deck — using your own brand template, with your colors, fonts, and layout. No rebuilding slides by hand. No copying and pasting content. Just click Export, and a ready-to-use deck downloads in under two minutes. Each content item in the exported deck links back to the original post in Opal, so whoever is reviewing the deck can jump straight to the source if they need more context. Your Opal team configures this once on your behalf. After that, your team runs exports on their own — no additional setup needed for each export.

How to Export a Presentation

Once your CSM has completed the one-time template setup, here's all you need to do each time you export.

  1. Open your presentation in Opal - Navigate to the presentation you want to export. Make sure it's the one you want — the export includes everything in that presentation, so think about what your audience actually needs to see. A focused, purposeful deck is more useful than exporting your entire library.
  2. Open the actions menu and click "Export to PowerPoint" - In the top-right corner of the presentation view, open the actions menu. You'll see Export to PowerPoint listed alongside Export to PDF. Click it. Note: If you don't see the Export to PowerPoint option, your presentation may not be associated with a configured theme. Reach out to your CSM — it's a quick fix.
  3. A confirmation dialog will appear. Click to confirm, and the export runs in the background — you don't need to stay on the page.
  4. Wait for the notification — usually under 2 minutes - You'll receive an email notification when your export is ready. It will also appear in the downloads panel inside Opal. Most exports complete in 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on the size of the presentation.
  5. Open and work with the deck - Download and open the file in PowerPoint or Keynote. Your brand template is applied automatically.

From here you can:

Edit text — titles, descriptions, and text slides are fully editable.

Click links — each content item links back to the original post in Opal. In PowerPoint, right-click any content image in edit mode to see the link, or click directly in presentation mode.

Copy slides — you can copy and paste individual slides into a broader branded deck if you want to combine this export with other materials.

Make visual tweaks — the export gets you most of the way there. For presentations where exact visual polish matters, you may want to do a quick pass on positioning for any slides with unusual content proportions.

Note: Images in the export are not editable (they're locked as image files), which is intentional. It keeps the content faithful to what's in Opal. Text is always editable.

What's included in the export

The export covers most content types in Opal presentations. Here's what's included in the export:

  • Title and section header slides
  • Text-only Canvas slides
  • Text + image Canvas slides
  • Image-only Canvas slides
  • Month-view calendar slides
  • Week-view calendar slides
  • Single-moment slides with one or more content items
  • Clickable links back to each post in Opal

FAQs

Will it use our company's brand template, not Opal's default?

Absolutely - that is why we created this feature. Your CSM sets up your brand template once, and every export from that presentation theme uses it automatically. You don't have to do anything different each time you export.

How long does the export take?

Usually 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on the size of the presentation. You'll get an email when it's ready and can also check the downloads panel in Opal.

Can I click on slides in the PowerPoint and get back to Opal?

Yes. Every content item links back to the original post in Opal. In PowerPoint, right-click a content image in edit mode to see and open the link. In presentation/slideshow mode, you can click directly on any content slide to navigate to it.

Can I copy slides into another deck?

Yes. You can copy and paste individual slides from your exported deck into any other PowerPoint file. The links back to Opal and all the formatting will carry over.

What if I have multiple brands or templates?

Each presentation theme in Opal can have its own export template. If your team uses different brand themes for different regions, campaigns, or audiences, your CSM can configure a matching PowerPoint template for each one.

What if I created my presentation before the template was set up?

No problem. You can switch a presentation's theme at any time — even after it's been created. Once you associate it with the right theme, the next export will use your brand template.

Can videos be played from the exported deck?

Videos don't play inline in PowerPoint. However, each video content item links back to Opal, where it can be played. Reviewers can click through from the deck to watch the video in context.

The export looks almost right but some images are off — is that a bug?

Not necessarily. The export is designed to get you 95% of the way there. For example, the export respects aspect ratios and won't stretch or squish images, which means some content may have a bit of extra space around it depending on the proportions. We recommend a quick visual pass on positioning for presentations where visual polish matters.
